This guide provides best practices and component recommendations for building reliable Ingun series production test fixtures. These guidelines focus on optimal performance, assembly efficiency, and long-term reliability for high-volume testing.
Guide Pins#
Misumi PGPU guide pins are the preferred method for accurately locating the DUT within Ingun fixtures. These pins provide professional-grade durability suited to production cycle counts.
For devices with locating holes smaller than 3mm (minimum 2.5mm), design custom cradles mounted to PGPU pins using M3 screws. The cradle extends the locating capability to boards without standard mounting holes.
Pressure Pins#
Pressure pins attach to the pressure plate with M3 x 10mm screws. Select pin length based on:
- Fixture model and cartridge type
- Device height and component clearance
- Required pressure distribution
Standard Ingun cartridges accommodate 65mm pressure pins. Verify pin length against cartridge specifications for your specific model.
Receptacles and Probes#
Three Ingun GKS series options suit different applications:
| Series | Application | Density |
|---|---|---|
| GKS-100 | Standard performance | Standard |
| GKS-075 | High-density test points | High |
| GKS-550 | Heavy-duty, demanding environments | Standard |
Probe Tip Options#
| Tip Type | Application |
|---|---|
| Standard | General test points, pads |
| Pointed | Populated through-holes |
| Star-type | Specialized geometries |
Match probe tips to test point characteristics on the DUT. Star-type probes from Ingun address unusual test point shapes or contaminated surfaces.
Probe Plate Design#
The probe plate should include cutouts to avoid interference with tall components on the DUT. Ingun fixtures provide substantial Z-axis travel, but component relief remains necessary for reliable operation.
Design Considerations#
- Map DUT component heights
- Add pocket or through-cuts for tall components
- Ensure adequate plate material around probe holes
- Verify clearance throughout fixture stroke
Key Benefits of Ingun Fixtures#
- Reliability — Professional guide pins and receptacles for consistent alignment
- Professional receptacles — GKS series designed for production environments
- Component flexibility — Multiple probe and tip options
- Repeatability — Pneumatic operation ensures consistent closure force
Positioning the DUT#
Use mounting holes on the DUT for repeatable alignment. PGPU guide pins engage the mounting holes to establish precise, repeatable positioning across thousands of test cycles.
When mounting holes aren't available, custom cradles provide edge or feature-based location with similar repeatability.
When to Choose Ingun#
Select Ingun production fixtures when:
- Monthly test volumes exceed 1,000 units
- Fixture life requirements exceed 10,000 cycles
- Pneumatic operation improves ergonomics
- 2000N contact force is required for reliable probe engagement
- Professional-grade repeatability is necessary
Comparison to Development Fixtures#
| Aspect | Dev/Dev Pro | Ingun |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum force | 200N | 2000N |
| Stroke type | Manual/parallel | Pneumatic parallel |
| Typical cycle life | 1,000-10,000 | 100,000+ |
| Guide pins | GP-2UL/GP-2TL | Misumi PGPU |
| Receptacles | Generic/Centalic | Ingun GKS series |
