Development Test Fixtures Guide

Leverage affordable, quick-turnaround fixtures for testing early revisions of your circuit boards during prototyping, EVT, and DVT phases.

FixturFab offers affordable, rapid-turnaround test fixtures designed for prototyping, EVT, and DVT phases of hardware development.

Key Characteristics#

Development fixtures are built with cost-effective materials and rapid fabrication methods including laser-cutting and quick-turn PCB manufacturing. They come in two sizes:

SizeWorking Area
Standard196mm × 180mm
XL218mm × 447mm

Development fixtures support testing from early development through pilot production runs of several thousand units. While not designed for mass production volumes, they provide reliable performance for lower-volume testing.

Primary Use Cases#

Low-Cost Prototyping#

Quick testing of low-volume prototypes with minimal investment. Get functional test coverage without committing to production-grade tooling.

Firmware Development#

Hardware-in-the-loop testing as firmware features evolve. The fixture provides consistent electrical access while software development iterates.

Engineering Testing#

Efficient multi-board testing with single instrumentation connection. Test multiple boards quickly during design validation.

Production Test Development#

Early test specification development before final board design. Validate your test approach and refine coverage while the PCB design stabilizes.

Workflow#

FixturFab uses a four-step engagement model:

  1. Configure — Use FixturFab Studio to configure a solution and receive instant budgetary quotes
  2. Submit — Send design files for precise specifications and final pricing
  3. Fabricate — In-house design and fabrication with 2-week lead times
  4. Deliver — Fixture delivered with ongoing support

Pricing#

ConfigurationPrice Range
Custom fixtures$249 – $1,899
Stock bases$149 – $899
Cartridges$49 – $74

When to Upgrade#

Consider Dev Pro fixtures or Production fixtures when you need:

  • Higher test point counts (200+ points)
  • Increased cycle life for sustained testing
  • Linear closing action for improved repeatability
  • Support for top or side probing
